About Blacklight Kabuki

Blacklight Kabuki is the creation of artist Rodger Carr and Philip Blackwelder. It began in 1997 with a few blacklight fine art exhibits that later migrated from canvas to skin in body art shows. The first of these was the 1999 "Lost Language of Light" Blacklight Body Art Show, which went beyond ordinary glamour show to tell a story set to exotic music and dance. Later, many of the models from that event, along with students of dance and theatre, joined together with the artist to form an art performance troope, bringing a unique form of theatrical performance to the audiences of the Monroe, La area.

Blacklight Kabuki as it came to be called continued to evolve, bringing more and more elaborate styles in design, costuming, and performance. Today it is a multi-service theatrical and consulting group for the blacklight arts, involving upstart photographers, artists, and models.

Using creative materials - such as original multi-colored fluorescent, water base, non-toxic paints, make-up, and various coatings, unavailable to the general public, Blacklight Kabuki has mastered fantastic luminescent murals, costumes, make-up, and body art all of which are designed and produced by the artists. An array of masks, props, lighting techniques, and designs are used to create bazaar and unearthly settings, bringing the imaginations of the two artists to life.

Blacklight Kabuki currently serves as the marketing arm for its owners, a short term goal is to expand our product line, not just by adding more of Carr's designs, but also by featuring works of other artists (see Blacklight Kabuki 2002 Overview).
